Stories of Iron Gate
(2023)

Stories of Iron Gate was a Derby City Centre Vibrancy Fund series of illustrations by my brother Charles Wilson and myself, about the characters, stories, and shops associated with the history of the ancient thoroughfare in Derby, Iron Gate. We researched Bess of Hardwick, John Whitehurst, Foulds Music, Richard Keene, and Rad Andjelic. They were collagraph prints, scanned, edited and printed onto vinyl stickers. It was located at 27, Iron Gate, Derby, DE1 3GL.

This was the first project I was involved in which demanded an extensive amount of research. My personal highlight of this project was meeting with Richard Keene's great-great grandson, John Keene in the Ye Olde Dolphin pub, who taught us history at school. This was a fitting place to meet as Richard Keene would have almost certainly visited this pub when he was alive in the 19th century.
